Jacksonville SQL Server Users Group

Welcome to the Jacksonville SQL Server Users Group

The Jacksonville SQL Server Users Group (JSSUG) was founded by Brian Knight in January 2003, creating a community for database developers and administrators in the Jacksonville area. The goal of JSSUG is to share knowledge, best practices, and network. Today, it is a community focusing on development, administration, and business intelligence. Free meetings are open to the public every month. Meetings include presentations, technology announcements, local job opportunities, and quick brainstorming/guidance for users experiencing difficulty. An after event for additional networking, shop talk, and users desiring more detailed guidance for specific challenges is available following the meeting.

M Query Basics for Power Query

Speaker: Devin Knight, Training Director Pragmatic Works

Summary: Power Query is a powerful data transformation tool that allows for self-service data extraction all within a familiar toolset: Excel. While Power Query does have a user interface that allows for simple transformations to be applied, you may find some scenarios require you to go beyond what is provided in the UI and actually write your own code. M is the query language that powers the data transforms utilized by Power Query. This session will guide you through the basics of using the language and show you some real world applications on why you might need to write your own M.

About Devin: Devin Knight a Microsoft Data Platform MVP and the Training Director at Pragmatic Works. He is an author of seven SQL Server and Business Intelligence books and speaks at conferences like PASS Summit, PASS Business Analytics Conference, SQL Saturdays and Code Camps. He is also a contributing member to several PASS Virtual Chapters. Making his home in Jacksonville, FL, Devin is the Vice President of the local Power BI User Group and SQL Server User Group (JSSUG).
