Jacksonville SQL Server Users Group

Welcome to the Jacksonville SQL Server Users Group

The Jacksonville SQL Server Users Group (JSSUG) was founded by Brian Knight in January 2003, creating a community for database developers and administrators in the Jacksonville area. The goal of JSSUG is to share knowledge, best practices, and network. Today, it is a community focusing on development, administration, and business intelligence. Free meetings are open to the public every month. Meetings include presentations, technology announcements, local job opportunities, and quick brainstorming/guidance for users experiencing difficulty. An after event for additional networking, shop talk, and users desiring more detailed guidance for specific challenges is available following the meeting.

Building Your Own Virtual Lab

Speaker: Jorge Segarra, Sr Consultant Microsoft

Summary: Have you ever looked at all the fancy new stuff SQL Server had to offer and thought “Man, I wish I could use it but at work the latest we’re running is 2005, I’ll NEVER get a chance to do that stuff”. Did you know you can build your own personal lab environment on your laptop and install and explore all the latest and greatest offerings from Microsoft? In this session, Jorge will walk you through the basics of virtualization. We’ll walk through creating and configuring a new virtual machine with SQL Server 2012 and Windows Server 2012. This session will be done in Windows 8 using client Hyper-V but the general concepts shown apply to almost any desktop virtualization product.

About Jorge: Jorge Segarra is a senior consultant for Microsoft (Premier Support for Developers) and a former SQL Server MVP. Jorge has co-authored titles including "SQL 2008 Pro Policy-Based Management" and "SQL Server 2012 Bible" .
